Camera show

The RAI exhibition center in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, was the stage for a camera show somewhere in the 1980's. At that time I was using Olympus equipment, nowadays I use Nikon, and it was common practice to have an area on the show where you could take pictures, mostly of models and/or bikes and cars. These shots were my attempt at being a model photographer. It was kind of fun, as there would be 2 or 3 models on the…

Dancing lessons 1981

I started to digitize all my old negatives I have. Over the years I took several thousand pictures and a lot of them were taken before we had digital cameras, so these pictures were just sitting in a folder in my cupboard. I finally decided it is timne to do something with them, so I pulled out my Plustek Optifilm 7300 scanner and started to go through my negatives. It is funny what you come across, including stuff you did…

Nikon D7100

The Nikon D7100 is a top of the line camera in the Nikon series. A wonderful piece of equipment with an impressive set of specs, which I am not going to list here, as there are enough websites out there that provide this info, like the Nikon website itself. All I can say is that so far this camera is proving to be awesome. I have played with it now for 2 weeks and it has not dissapoint. The only…

Jozefzorg, Tilburg

The Jozefzorg home takes good care of its residents and while we were in the Netherlands for my dads funarel, they had a few days later a Medieval Dinner. It was kinda fun and my mum felt bad that she was having fun, while my dad was only dead for a few days, but it just shows that life goes on and I know he would want her to go out and do things, instead of sitting at home being…

Funeral photos

Today, March 20, 2013, was the day of the funeral. We suspect my father met up with my father-in-law when he came to heaven, as it snowed the day of the funeral. That reminded us much of the day we brought my father-in-law's ashes to Dartmoor in the UK, as the weather was cold and miserable, while it had been nice the rest of the week. And the weather in Tilburg was much the same, nice on the other days…

Cornelus M. Hemmelder (1917-2013)

My father passed away this Friday, March 15, 2013 at 10:50 PM local time in Tilburg, the Netherlands at the age of 95 years. Even though his mind was still fine, his body had given up. He died at home in the presence of my mother, his wife. I'll be flying to the Netherlands on Sunday, March 17, 2013 for the ceremonies that will be held on Wednesday at the St. Jozefzorg chapel at 10 AM local time and at…

Upgrades and updates

It was time that I did upgrade the website to a newer version of Joomla, as the old version was getting really old. Not that it needed it because content was not working again, but nobody was creating new modules for it anymore. So we upgraded to a newer version of the CMS product. That also meant we had to update our template, as the template in use on the older version of Joomla, did not work on the new…

ViaRail wants your service... not!

I was in Ottawa this week, doing some training in our Ottawa office and decided to take the train from Woodstock to Ottawa. Which means, you take the train from Woodstock to Toronto and another train from Toronto to Ottawa. Total travel time is around 7 hours, not counting the layover in Toronto. The train in Canada, for those Europeans not familair with the service here, is much like a plain ride, as you have to get a ticket in…

Great Wolf Lodge

We were this weekend in Great Wolf Lodge in Nigara Falls, Ontario. For those not familair with this place, it is a water park with a hotel. It was an outing for my 50th birthday with the family. To be honest, I was not looking forward to it, but it was not as bad as I thought it would be. That does not mean that there was nothing to complain about. For example, for a water park this big, there…

Warm weather here I come...

It is November, which means time to escape the cold and head for warmer weather. Well, that is what a while bunch of Canadians do, they spend their winters in Florida. And I got to go too! Okay, it is only for a few days instead of months, but still, it is not bad to soak up some sun. OpenText's annual conference takes place this year in Orlando, Florida, at the Hilton Bonnet Creek and I get to go again.…
